About The Federal University of Technology Akure

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) was established in 1981 and is located at Obanla, Ondo State. Later, it established other campuses in different places such as: Obakekere and Centre for Entrepreneurship, Ibule and expanse of land on Owo-Benin Road. All these locations are in the same State where the first establishment was made (that is, Ondo State).

However, this University was established as a result of the drive by the Federal Military Government of Nigeria to create Universities that will specialise in producing graduates with practical and theoretical knowledge of technologies. So, as at 2023, FUTA is 42 years in establishment. Again, when it was established, FUTA had 300 administrative staffs and about 15,000 students.

Other Universities of technology that were established around the same time include: the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola among others.

Today, FUTA is among the top ranking Universities of technology. It is indeed among the prides of Nigeria. This University has grown tremendously, and has stretched its academic disciplines and research across six different schools and over thirty academic departments. However, this University offers different academic programs for undergraduates, pre-degree students, postgraduate students, and for any of their interested students.
