In my view, it is better to apply for admission in a university where tuition fee is reasonably low, than applying for admission in any of the top Public Ghanaian universities where you will be asked to pay huge amount of money.
The reason is because, most private universities in Ghana are far better than many expensive government owned universities. Based on this reasoning, I have decided to disclose the cheapest universities in Ghana. This will guide both local and foreign students when making their choice of institution to attend.
As we continue, i will mention and discuss the cheapest universities in Ghana this year. So, if you are from any part of the world and you want to study in Ghana, i strongly recommend that you go through this article because it contains detailed information about some of the best and cheapest universities in Ghana.
It should however be noted that the universities mentioned below are not arranged in any particular order. Thus, the first university in this article, may not be the cheapest in the whole of Ghana. Just keep in mind that the universities in this article are the cheapest.

I personally recommend this university for students who want to go into the field of science. Regent university of Science and Technology is not only one of the best universities to study science related courses in Ghana, it is also one of the cheapest universities where you can gain admission easily. This prestigious University was established to contribute to the development of scientific research in Ghana.
It will shock you to know that Regent university of Science and Technology is one of the youngest universities in Ghana. But that notwithstanding, students are attesting to the quality education given by the university. According to Wikipedia, the university has four schools (faculties) namely:
- The School of Business and Leadership (SBL)
- The Faculty of Arts and Sciences
- The Faculty of Informatics, Engineering and Allied Sciences (FECAS)

There is probably nobody in Ghana who doesn’t know about the prestigious Pentecost University College. It is one of the most popular and respected universities in Ghana. Over the years, the university has produced hundreds to graduate from different fields of study. Pentecost University College is a private university owned by one of the biggest churches in Ghana. This is probably why the university is very cheap.

3. Valley view university – 2,268.00 GHS – 4500.00 GHS

4. Sikkim Manipal University – $1,300

The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the best universities in Ghana i can count on. It is an independent technology focused research university in Accra, Ghana. Students who have attended this school have been able to attest to the quality education the school offer. Frankly speaking, there are only few universities of Technology in Ghana that can compare with this university.

I personally love this university because, it is one of the institutions in Ghana where Christianity is taught in depth. However, this does not mean that the University marginalizes based on religion. So your religion don’t matter much. In fact, it is not one of the requirements for admission in the university.

Location: Accra North, Ghana
If you are searching for a church-based institution in Ghana, then search no further because you have found the best. One of the reasons why I love universities like this is because, their tuition fee is usually very low.
For example, about 3 (three) institutions I have already mentioned in this article already are church based institutions.
This is to tell you that church based private institutions are the ideal institutions for students who don’t have enough money to attend some of the top universities in Ghana.
Catholic Institute of business and Technology is obviously one of the cheapest universities in Ghana. In the university, Ghanaian pay GH¢ 1,540.00 as school fee while Foreign students pay US$ 1,087.50. The University offers many courses. However, you are advised to check the list of courses offered in the university before you finally apply.
8. Kings university Ghana (KUS) – $2,000
Year of establishment: 2009
Location: Ghana
Kings university Ghana is undoubtedly one of the best universities in Ghana. It is the most soughted university in the country this 2019.
Basically, i think the reason why most students are dreaming of gaining admission into this university is because of the quality and good learning environment this university has.
It is institutionally affiliated to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and in collaboration with the Liaoning University, China. KUC was established in February 2009 and was accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana in January 2010.
I personally recommend this university for students who want to enroll in: Business Administration, Law, Governance and International Relations Computer Science and Engineering.

Zenith University College and another wonderful and cheap college in Ghana you might want to try. The university started its activities in 2001 and today it is one of the best universities in africa and also one of the Top 40 universities in Ghana too.
Well, when it comes to beauty and condition of learn all Ghanaian universities are good. But ZUC is better.

11. All Nations University College – $2,365
Year of establishment: 2005
Location: Accra North, Ghana
All Nations University College is one of the youngest universities in Ghana. It is also one of the best when it comes to teaching. This is very evident, as the university has produced people who are contributing greatly to the development of Ghana. Take for instance, Ghana Sat-1 (Ghana’s first satellite in space was launched from the International Space Station) was tested first, by three students of this university.
As at the time this article was written, All Nations University College has about 3500 students students and offers about 50 courses. The university admits students from every part of the world.

12. University for Development Studies (UDS): It was founded in 1992 as a multi-campus University. This public University is located at Tamale (the capital city of the Northern Region of Ghana). It is a special University with its own structure, central campuses, and administrations.
UDS is special because it is different from the settings of other Universities (which are conventional Universities). Again, UDS has a diverse body of student. So, it includes students from different parts of Ghana and from other African countries. This means that students from other countries can apply to study in this University, and their fees are relatively cheap.
However, today, the tuition fee for students in UDS is about $2,500 on yearly basis. So, this is affordable compared to other Universities in Ghana today. Again, UDS has 8 Faculties and 2 Schools of Health Sciences (School of allied health sciences and School of Medicine and Health Sciences). It has 40 courses (excluding those that are offered under the Schools of Health Sciences). Also, it has high class facilities for learning, attractive environment for learning, special style of administration, and conductive hostel accommodation. As at 2023, UDS is among the cheapest Universities in Ghana.
13. University of Ghana: Today, this is the oldest but largest University in Ghana. It was founded in 1948 (in the British colony of the Gold Coast). University of Ghana has a long-standing reputation in terms of excellence in academics. However, in 1961, this University got its full status of accreditation. Students from other countries can apply in order to study in it, and the fees are so cheap.
However, this University is the biggest in terms of landmass and structures. Today, the size of population in terms of students in it is estimated to be around 40,000. As at 2023, this University has 5 Colleges and 6 Faculties. Some of them include: College of Health Sciences, College of Basic and Applied Sciences, College of Humanities, College of Education, College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Arts British, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Engineering among others.
Again, it is equipped with a graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences at the Commission of Ghana Atomic Energy. This makes it to stand out as one of the few Universities in Africa that offer Courses in Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Engineering.
Also, this university has a teaching hospital (for students who aspire to study Medicine). Today, it is special in every facet (that is, academically and socially). 14. University of Cape Coast (UCC): This public university was established in 1962 and is located in the coastal town of Cape Coast. It is known for its excellent academic programs.
However, today, the tuition fee for students from other countries in this school is about $1,800 on yearly basis. So, it is cheap compared to other universities in the country.
However, UCC operates 2 campuses which are: the Southern Campus (that is, the first site) and the Northern Campus (that is, the new site). It has six (6) colleges with each college broken down into schools, faculties and departments. Today, its school fees is affordable for all students (both for indigent and international students).
15. University of Education: This public university was established in 1992 and is located at the town of Winneba (in the Central Region of Ghana). Also, students from other countries are welcome to apply to this university, and the fees are relatively cheap. However, this university specialize in certain fields rather than muddling up courses just to gain cheap reputation with the most courses.
Today, it has over 60,000 students. The primary aim of setting up this university is to focus on improving teaching as an art. By so doing, train teachers for the education system of Ghana. Also, it is well equipped with state of the art electronic library (that is, Balme Library) for carrying out research and other findings.
