The First step to become a Doctor in India is enrolling into a Science Class in Secondary School Education, and opting for subjects including but not limited to Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
After Secondary School Education, you are to apply for MBBS, the basic degree to become a Doctor in India. In order to get enrolled into any institution to pursue your MBBS, you must pass the NEET Examination (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) conducted by the Central board of Secondary Education in India.
Qualification to write the NEET Examinations must be on the following basis: You are either a Citizen of India, Non-resident of India (NRI’s), Person of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCLs) or a Foreign National. Additionally, you must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as Core subjects from a recognized board, and you must have attained a minimum age of 17 at the time of writing the Examination.
If you’re successful in the NEET Examination, you may apply for enrollment for MBBS in a good College. Upon gaining admission, you are required to complete a 4.5 years classroom training, and a one year Internship training. Upon completion of these, and passing all the necessary certification Exams, you will earn a MBBS degree which means that you are now a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
This MBBS degree qualifies you to be called a Doctor, but not to practice as a Doctor in India. To therefore Practice as a Doctor, you must complete a Post graduate program either MS, MD or PGDM which will enable you to specialize in a Particular area of Medicine.
