In the past two weeks, I have been receiving mails from aspirants of the prestigious Amadu Bello University (ABU), asking the question; “What are the requirements for Admission in ABU?“. This particular question has been asked by many aspirants of ABU, so I decided to publicly answer it here.

Basically, i am going to disclose the Direct Entry and UTME requirements of admission in to ABU, Zaria. But first, i must let you know that ABU admission requirements are like the criteria for gaining admission into the university.

In other words, candidates that do not meet up with the admission requirements of the university, may not be offered admission eventually. This is why every student that really wants to gain admission into ABU this year should not joke with the information contained in this post.

Before I will go into the crux of today’s topic, I would like to show you some few things about ABU that you probably don’t know.

About the Amadu Bello University (ABU)

Amadu Bello University (ABU, Zaria) is one of the best universities in Nigeria. It is also one of the top federal universities in Northern Nigeria. ABU was established in 1962 to ensure the development education and enlightenment of Nigerians in the North. So far, ABU has really contributed greatly to the development of Nigeria by bringing up some of the top personalities in different fields of life.

In fact, it will surprise you to know that the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar was a student of ABU zaria. Other popular people that schooled in ABU includes; Adamu Aliero, Donald Duke, Namadi Sambo, Namadi Sambo, Uche Okeke, Gani Odutokun.

Undoubtedly, ABU is a very competitive university. Every year, the university usually have thousands of students applying for admission to study there. This has apparently made it very difficult to gain admission into the school.

Currently, ABU does not accept second choice candidates for admission. Also the university may not give admission to candidates that do not meet up with all the requirements for admission into the school. As you continue to read below, I will disclose the requirements for admission into Amadu Bello University (ABU) this year.

ABU Admission Requirements for UTME candidates

Below are the requirements for candidates that wish to gain admission into ABU through UTME:

• Candidates must possess at least, an O’level Credit grade in 5 different subjects (Including English language and mathematics). In this case, O’level result could be WAEC/NECO/GCE/NABTEB or any equivalent.
• Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination which is in line with university’s directive.
• Candidates must score at least, 180 in the just concluded JAMB UTME examination to be offered admission into the university.
• UTME Candidates must make Amadu Bello University their first choice of institution during JAMB registration. ABU does not accept second choice candidates for admission.
• Candidates are expected to participate and pass ABU post UTME examination excellently.

Note: UTME aspirants of ABU should note that Amadu Bello University (ABU) allows two sittings results for admission. Thus, candidates can choose to use more than one O’level result for admission into the university.

ABU Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

Below are the requirements for UTME admission into ABU, Zaria:

• Direct entry candidates must also possess an O’level Credit grade in 5 different subjects (Including English language and mathematics).
• Candidates must have ‘A’ level/IJMB passes in two subjects that are relatively to their area of study.
• Direct entry candidates are required to purchase ABU Direct Entry form through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
• In some cases, Direct Entry candidates will be required to have up to a particular score in JAMB to be admitted.

Note: ABU also accept two sittings result for Direct entry candidates for admission. Thus, aspirants can choose to use more than one O’level result.

Although not the only prominent university in the nation, since there are a lot of institutions with reputation and high standards, ABU Zaria seems to stand out.
